Book Buying Consultancy.

We can provide your organisation with a distinct range of books, curated with affection and curiosity by an established book buyer.

What Shrew can provide for you.

I would love to bring my years of experience to your organisation, to help you represent your space or your collections at the highest level by using your book range as a rich storytelling tool. The books you offer can provide your visitors with another way of taking home a piece of your organisation, by adding colour to their experience, and hopefully help spread the word as well as build revenue.

Why choose Shrew?

I’m the owner & manager of Shrew Books, and I’ve had the pleasure of running this beautiful shop since 2020. We’ve been shortlisted in the national Bookseller Awards for South West Independent Bookshop of the Year for the past three years, and I take great pride in providing an extensive range of titles in such a small space.

I took on the bookshop after several years working for the boutique London office of a New York-based literary agency, and before that worked as the Book Buyer for the Royal Museums Greenwich for four years. I also spent some time working in literary rights at the BBC, and after studying literature at Goldsmiths I began my bookselling career at Waterstones, where I spent some years creating ranges within the Buying Department in their head office.

If your organisation has no permanent book buyer, or a stretched staff and limited budget, then I can help fill that gap for you. Whether on a rolling basis or as a one-off book range project, I can bring my years of experience and contacts (and passion for supplying books!) to your space or event.

Previous Projects

As well as curating permanent tailored book ranges for museums, schools, hotel libraries and events, I have worked with curators to piece together selections for major exhibitions. I can craft a range of titles according to your budget and space, as well as the key themes of the exhibition or display that you hope to communicate through your selection of books.

How this works.

Whether on a rolling basis or as a one-off book range project, I can bring my years of experience and contacts (and passion for supplying books!) to your space or event.

We can start with a curated list, and I can assist your team by setting up accounts with book wholesalers so that they can easily re-order and manage returns if necessary. Alternatively I can manage orders and returns on an ad hoc basis, which can be agreed upon and worked into the day rate. We can work flexibly and according to the size and needs of your organisation as everyone is different, and budgets will vary.

My daily rate is £200, but this can be negotiated according to the size of the project and the size of the organisation, and for site visits outside of the South West I will need to include some travel expenses in the fee.
